To our customers, neighbors and friends:

Even though this report is provided in 2023, it summarizes data collected in calendar year 2022. What you will find within the report is that our drinking water not only satisfies all state and federal drinking water standards, but in all cases surpasses those requirements. Our water is of an extremely high quality.

In 2022, we provided 3.5 billion gallons of world-class quality water to more than 100,000 Morgantown area residents, averaging more than 10 million gallons per day. Of this, 84.88% of raw water was drawn from the Monongahela River and 15.12% came from the Cobun Creek Reservoir.

A first for us in 2022 was the implementation of boil water advisories across the entire calendar year. In doing so we included numerous ways of contacting customers, including via voice message and text messages. Hats off to our lab staff for completing the testing of samples and our engineering and information technology staff for making the system functional 24/7. The amount of work that goes into the program is amazing. Looking forward we hope to get the system more manually activated via our geographic information system (GIS).

An additional benefit of this program is that it has encouraged the public to voluntarily provide additional information via our online registration form. In 2022 we had more than 300 customers update information and provide us with additional cell phone numbers. This provides an important means of helping us meet our mission of protecting public health.

Calendar year 2022 was also big in that we finalized construction on the Flegal Dam and Reservoir. This positioned us to begin filling the reservoir in 2023. This work is not only historic but will serve our community for generations to come.

A facet of this new reservoir, and a fact that I’m always excited to reiterate, is that the four miles of pipeline connecting the reservoir to the water treatment plant on Don Knotts Boulevard in entirely gravity fed. This is an incredible feat that will both save rate payers money and provide raw water in the most environmentally friendly manner possible. This is important to meeting our mission of protecting public health and the environment. After all, it gets no greener than gravity.

The Morgantown area is fortunate to have the dedicated professionals of MUB working to ensure that water and wastewater services remain affordable and of extremely high quality. It’s our people that make us an industry leader and an organization for which all of Morgantown can be proud. It takes world-class people to deliver world-class services and that’s what we have at MUB.

Please take time to review this year’s CCR. In addition to test results and other notices, it contains a host of information. This includes data on our water sources, explanations of likely sources of contamination for various chemicals, and definitions. The report also shows the condition of our raw water, the quality of our treated water, and compares our results against federal and state standards.

If you have questions or comments regarding this report or your water, please feel free to contact Treatment and Production Manager Greg Shellito at 304-599-2111, visit our website at https://mub.org, or follow us on one of our social media sites. In addition, remember that MUB board meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., are open to the public.

We thank you for your continued support of MUB’s efforts to protect our water resources and deliver world-class water. Your support makes a tremendous difference.

Sincerely,

Barbara Parsons, Chair
