First Ward Smoke Testing

Morgantown Utility Board will conduct sewer smoke testing along Hite Street in the areas of Standard Street and Dorsey Avenue on July 23, 24, and 25. Make-up dates in the event of bad weather are July 28, 29, and 30. The smoke testing is being done to obtain information on the sewer system.

While the process utilizes artificial smoke that is non-toxic, please alert a MUB crew member if you notice smoke entering your home so that it can be noted. This can be a sign of a failing pipe that could allow harmful sewer gases to enter your home. We do request that you pour a gallon of water into each of your basement floor drains and any seldom used shower drains, sinks or toilets prior to the testing.

For more information on sewer smoke testing please visit mub.org/smoketest, call the MUB Engineering Department at (304) 292-8443, or talk to a crew member on site during the test.

MUB staff delivered flyers to homes that could possibly be affected by the smoke testing. In addition, those in the vicinity of the smoke testing will receive a text or voice message regarding this project. You can register to receive emergency messages from MUB by completing the form under the heading “Register for MUB Emergency Messages” at mub.org/smoketest.
