Willowdale Road Closure
UPDATE: The Willowdale Road closure is extended through Wednesday, March 19. The same detours will remain in effect.
-----Willowdale Road Closure-----
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday, March 14, a contractor for Morganton Utility Board will close Willowdale Road at Stewart Street and McCullough Street. The closure may continue until Sunday. Please note that local traffic will be permitted access to Willowdale Road.
The closure is necessary for the contractor to install 30 feet of a 24-inch steel casing containing a 12-inch gravity sewer main perpendicular to Willowdale Road. In addition, manholes will be installed outside the curb lines on both sides of Willowdale Road. When the work is complete, the road will be temporarily resurfaced with asphalt. Permanent road repairs will be done later.
MUB originally planned to bore beneath Willowdale Road; however, the uncertain depth of utility lines rendered that impracticable. This work is part of the Popenoe Run project.
---Detours---
Traffic approaching Stewart Street will be routed around Stewart Street to Chestnut Ridge Road. Traffic can then take Valley View Avenue, or Irwin Street, or continue on Chestnut Ridge Road to Willowdale Road.
Traffic approaching McCullough Street will be routed up McCullough Street to Hoffman Avenue then onto Stewart Street to the intersection of Stewart Street and Willowdale Road.
