If you've driven on I-68, just after the “Downtown” exit, and wondered what the construction off the freeway was about, wonder no more!

What you are seeing is construction of MUB’s 370,000,000 gallon Flegal Dam and Reservoir! Here are some quick facts on the project…

  • Raw water from the reservoir will gravity flow via a pipeline to the water treatment plant located on the Mon River. No pumps are needed!
  • The dam and reservoir will provide MUB with a 30-plus day secondary backup source of drinking water
  • The dam and reservoir will also help ensure a continuous flow of water through Cobun Creek.
  • The pipeline will protect the raw water from contamination
  • Similarly, the pipeline will protect aquatic life and the stream bank from erosion during periods of increased raw water flows
  • Use of water from the reservoir will reduce MUB’s overall water pumping costs and is expected to require less treatment.
