To our customers, neighbors and friends:

Even though this report is provided in 2022, it summarizes data collected in calendar year 2021. What you will find within the report is that our drinking water not only satisfies all state and federal drinking water standards, but in all cases surpasses those requirements. Our water is of an extremely high quality.

In 2021, we provided 3.7 billion gallons of world-class quality water to more than 100,000 Morgantown area residents, averaging more than 10 million gallons per day. Of this, 88.7% of raw water was drawn from the Monongahela River and 11.3% came from the Cobun Creek Reservoir.

The quality of our water is so high that we were named the winner of the West Virginia Rural Water Association’s Annual Taste Test. We also completed the Sanitary Survey with no deficiencies and implemented boil water advisories, including the conducting of associated water quality tests for each boil water event.

One of our more unique projects involved the launch of a sophisticated water monitoring pontoon upriver from our water treatment plant. This solar powered device monitors various aspects of the Monongahela River and transmits the data to our water treatment plant.

We are similarly happy to say that substantial progress was made on the 370,000,000 gallon Flegal Dam and Reservoir on Cobun Creek. As part of the project, we completed construction of the pipeline that will provide gravity fed flows from the new reservoir to our water treatment plant on Don Knotts Boulevard. We anticipate having the reservoir, and its pristine source water, in service in 2022.

It’s important to remember that we accomplished all of this during the ongoing pandemic and the very real challenges associated with supply chain issues. The Morgantown area is fortunate to have the dedicated professionals of MUB working to ensure that water and wastewater services remain affordable and of extremely high quality. It’s our people that make us an industry leader and an organization for which all of Morgantown can be proud.

Please take time to review this year’s CCR. In addition to test results and other notices, it contains a host of information. This includes data on our water sources, explanations of likely sources of contamination for various chemicals, and definitions. The report also shows the condition of our raw water, the quality of our treated water, and compares our results against federal and state standards.

If you have questions or comments regarding this report or your water, please feel free to contact Treatment and Production Manager Greg Shellito at 304-225-3659, visit our website at https://mub.org, or follow us on one of our social media sites. In addition, remember that MUB board meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., are open to the public.

We thank you for your continued support of MUB’s efforts to protect our water resources and deliver world-class water. Your support makes a tremendous difference.

Sincerely,

J.T. Straface, Chair
